FIPA presents: Fit for applications in the Industry 4.0 environment

With the compact ejectors of the MFE series, FIPA offers robust vacuum generators with high functionality for use in complex grippers and directly on the robot. The new ejectors are optimised for the dynamic handling of vacuum-tight products, such as plastic packaging, films, plastic parts and metal products.

New compact ejectors with automatic air-saving function

The robust compact ejectors of the MFE series combine all key functions in just one device: Vacuum generation, automatic air-saving, blow-off function, sensors and gripping function. The mounting on the optional manifold bar enables straightforward, clean installation of two to five ejectors on one compressed air line. Dummy panels can keep unused spaces free for later extensions. A keypad with a two-digit numeric display and practical standard settings ensure easy operation.

In highly dynamic applications, the blow-off function can force the depletion of the vacuum. Three options that the blow-off function offers ensure the best possible adaptation to the process. The blow-off can either start automatically after a fixed time, be controlled externally via an input signal, or be self-optimising. The self-optimisation is made adaptively via the built-in vacuum sensor and the integrated electronics. The strength of the blow-off impulse can be set manually via a throttle.

Save compressed air and use it effectively

The air saver can work in AUTOVAC and MANUVAC mode. In AUTOVAC mode, the compact ejector works as a two-point controller with an adjustable upper and lower breakpoint. At a vacuum level of, for example, 70 percent, the ejector stops generating the vacuum, which conserves compressed air. When the lower breakpoint is reached – for example at 60 percent vacuum level – the ejector nozzle switches on again. A valve protection function limits the number of re-evacuations. The MANUVAC mode is designed for applications with porous or non-airtight goods.

Preventive maintenance for higher system availability

Worn sealing lips and leaking or loose tubing cause leaks, which increase the compressed-air consumption of grippers and, in the worst case, lead to system downtime. With preventive maintenance, unwanted downtimes can be largely avoided. MFE Series S models have a preventative maintenance feature with two options. With option 1, the higher-level controller evaluates the duration and number of re-evacuations – ideal for Industry 4.0 applications. With option 2, the ejector activates an output signal once the set number of re-evacuations is exceeded. For example, after pumping twice, a warning lamp may light up.

    Robust design

The new ejector series works very reliably in systems. The ejectors tolerate voltage fluctuations that often occur in grippers with many electrical auxiliary functions. Robust valve technology ensures a long life cycle.

FIPA compact ejectors with automatic air-saving function of the MFE series:

    • Fit for Industry 4.0: Connection to higher-level control via M12 connector
    • Detects leaks early on: Vacuum sensor monitors the vacuum level
    • Avoids downtimes: Preventive maintenance on Model S (8-pin version)
    • High functionality: Automatic air-saving, blow-off and holding function
    • Clear installation: Manifold bar feeds compressed air to up to five ejectors
